Tourmaline is a gemstone that occurs in a wide variety of colors and is therefore also known as the rainbow stone. Single-colored tourmalines are particularly rare. The intensely pink to red pink tourmaline, also known as rubellite, is one of the most sought-after varieties in this gemstone group.

BERND WOLF uses exclusively pink tourmalines from Brazil. With their radiant color intensity, they harmonize perfectly with the warm 24-karat gold plating and give every piece of jewelry an elegant, expressive appearance.

History

The gemstone tourmaline has been known since antiquity. Because it possesses a wide variety of outward appearances, spanning all the colors of the rainbow, it was often confused with other stones. In the Middle Ages, the red tourmaline was therefore called a "carbuncle," just like the ruby or garnet. Green tourmalines were also confused with emeralds, and so on. Its current name did not become established until the 18th century. It comes from Sinhalese (turmali) and translates to "stone of mixed colors." A characteristic feature of tourmaline is its great variety of colors.
